Late last week I had this very strange dream. It's only a fragment but very compelling. I'd love to hear your thoughts on what it could mean. It doesn't seem apocalyptic until you think about the "abomination of desolation" mentioned in Daniel:
Dn:9:27:
27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many, in one week: and in the half of the week the victim and the sacrifice shall fail: and there shall be in the temple the abomination of desolation: and the desolation shall continue even to the consummation, and to the end. (DRV)
Here is the dream:
I was with an older man whom I don't know but I apparently knew him in the dream (I'm not even sure of that). I don't now remember what he looked like. He took me into a Catholic church - there was no one else in there at the time, but he said he wanted to receive Communion. I wondered how he could receive without attending Mass.
He walked up to the altar, but instead of approaching the tabernacle (which is what he would have done if he were after the host), he opened a secret door in the altar - the door had a cross on it. The hinges of the door were on my side of it, so I couldn't get a very good look inside when he opened the door.
He pulled out a bunch of wafers - they were as thin as potato chips - and stuffed them into his mouth. Bits and pieces of the wafers crumbled all over the floor. I protested loudly that that was sacriledge and an insult to God, and he just laughed.
That's all I remember.
Here are some of I disagreeociations:
Communion: calls to mind Strieber's book (in addition to the Holy Communion associations). I wondered why he called it "Communion" - was it meant to be deliberatly provocative? To deliberately have the association with Christ? Hmmmm....
Stuffing the wafers into his mouth: This reminds me of a lunch meeting I had with the parish priest back in the States. He sat there stuffing whole pieces of lettuce into his mouth and it reminded me of those paintings of devils tormenting souls in hell by Hieronomous Bosch. I could only think of that horribile demon stuffing a whole human body into its mouth...
This priest is very into "modernization" of the chuch and has caused a storm of controversy in the parish (I won't go into it here). Suffice it to say he isn't well liked in that parish. (Count me on the side of the not-well-likers, after that lunch!)
