this would be an artificial nose that was capable of smell?! Interesting! Sometimes it's hard to know if we should be excited about or scared of technology. I guess sometimes it's both.

That was my reaction, too. Maybe I've seen too many movies about AI turning on its inventors! (Like The Matrix, for example....) I can imagine some good uses for a nose that can smell, especially in detecting poisonous gases (no need for canaries any more ) and other toxic fumes.
